Lange & Sohne's new Pour Le Merite Launched  0 Comments

The Hour Glass Atelier at ION is showcasing from the 13th to the 19th of July a complete set of four white gold Pour Le Merites. The PLMs are the jewel in Lange's crown but the fourth iteration is larger and seemingly different in its DNA from its previous three - shown here.

The overlapping dials in an already enlarged dial of the latest design seems out of sync with the previous three designs. The price of which is also prohibitive and even to well heeled collectors, the perennial question of over pricing will resurface - regardless of the merit of this complication. Nevertheless, even disregarding the prohibitive price of this new Pour Le Merite, the design aspects of this watch does not seem to be the normal Lange philosophy of functional design. The aperture for the tourbillon appears to be overly large for the tourbillon movement. The overlap of the minute hand is more than half of the hour sub-dial.

However, I suspect Lange fans will overlook these concerns because of the mythical qualities that the Pour Le Merite has.

Together with the launch of this new Pour Le Merite at the Hour Glass Ion is Peter Chong's opus on the history of Lange and the development of the Pour Le Merite watches. Fans of Lange will be able to view both at the Hour Glass Atelier @ ION until 19th July.
